Enjoying new computer applications

I didn't know what post to write for this blog because I've been focusing on encoding data in the sales application of Tiens since the cut-off is every 24th day of the month. After that I also encode a summary of the same data in a CRM application for a different objective.

Perhaps it was not just obligation that forced me to focus on completing these encoding tasks which are coupled by checking and monitoring, I simply enjoyed doing them because both applications are user friendly. I never liked encoding, it is such a boring task for me. But I easily appreciate computer applications, and I like discovering all their features if I found out they are easy to use. If they're not easy to use, I don't waste my time.

I am relieved that I don't have to think hard what post to write. It feels good to say that I'm enjoying so though those simple feelings will create just a short post, I'm contented to just write about them.

Are you a certified IT professional?

Since last year, I've been applying for several IT positions: IT Project Manager, Systems Analyst, Program Applications Developer, Data Center Team Leader, etc. Most of the ads of such positions specified "... certified applicants will be given preference". In my thoughts, I kept on saying, "that was their preference, but I can still apply for the position since I have years of experience". But the reality is I can no longer apply for most IT positions because they require very specific software or hardware exposure, and that could be a major reason why it has been almost a year now and I haven't found a job yet. It could have been a different story if only I took a certification exams. I was planning to do just that but I didn't pursue it. It just slipped off my mind.

Applying in several IT positions only confused me, losing my focus on potential areas where I could have enhanced my expertise. My thinking was, "I am a goal-oriented person, I can achieve my goals whatever position will be offered to me". My dear IT colleagues, don't follow my example!

I've been in IT more than half of my life now, but I even tried to shift to another career so I won't have to be an employee all my life, but now I realized that is not the solution!

I even tried to be an entrepreneur of an entirely different line of business, but now I realized I made the wrong move!

What could I have done then that would make things right? Follow what the ads had been saying: be certified! If I got a certification, there's a big possibility by this time I've already started a career as a consultant, not necessarily an employee. I could have chosen the best IT field for me to specialize, attend a training if needed, and be a certified in that field.



Very recently, I've encountered a website that offers online IT training and certification, and it's from The Cisco Learning Network! This website can guide even beginners in charting a professional path. It has sample job role paths that will point a beginner to the right direction and Cisco certification to take. In my case, my research from The Cisco Learning Network led me to an industry solution where I can gain more expertise: the Healthcare solutions. I was the Head of the Health Information Management Services of my last employer and that specialization fits me well!

Endless Love

After almost a month of blogging, another realization is my endless love for computer applications or Information Technology (IT). At first, I told myself, maybe I should stop tinkering with computers and leave computer tasks to the young, but now I don’t think I will always like to do that. Maybe I’ve said that because of my past insecurity of not having an exposure to web-based applications, but look now, I’m blogging. Although I’m now using a blog template, I can rearrange my photos and other elements on my pages by editing the HTML code or the template's program code, which is an easy task for me.

For two years, I’ve tried to operate a coffee and tea business with my husband. According to Feng Shui, we are a great team since he is a “dragon” the doer, and I am a “snake” the thinker, but I don’t think I will like that set-up for a long time. I don’t want to tell my husband what to do every time. I also realize I am more a technical than a business man, and I always want to share to people whatever new lessons I learn as a technical person, of course in layman’s terms.

My advice to my IT colleagues is to stay in your profession no matter how old you are now. Anyway, the WIFI technology will still allow you to go places or just stay at home. If you really want to have your own business, then choose a business that is in line with your profession.
